Premier John Horgan; Melanie Mark, MLA for Vancouver-Mount Pleasant; Mitzi Dean, Parliamentary Secretary for Gender Equity; and Scott Fraser, Minister of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation have issued the following statement to acknowledge the annual Women’s Memorial March for murdered and missing women and girls in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside:

The Government of Canada, the Government of British Columbia and the First Nations Summit (the Principals) have taken an important step to move forward as partners in transforming treaty negotiations and advancing reconciliation with First Nations in British Columbia.

New training programs created by the Metro Vancouver Aboriginal Executive Council aim to help Indigenous health and wellness employees who experience emotional stress working on the frontlines.

The Government of British Columbia has signed an agreement with the Tahltan Central Government, to ensure the First Nation receives a share of mineral tax revenue collected from the Brucejack Gold Mine in northwestern B.C.

The safety and security of First Nation communities is a shared priority for the Government of Canada and the Province of British Columbia. Canada is committed to partnering with First Nations to ensure access to emergency assistance services that are comparable to those available to nearby non-Indigenous communities.

Over the past year, more than 400 people came together in communities throughout B.C. to listen and talk about how reconciliation with Indigenous people can shape a better future through workshops held by Reconciliation Canada.

For many First Nations communities, especially those in rural and remote areas, there is an urgent need for Internet and mobile connectivity, as well as digital-skills development.
