Highway 4 is closed at Cameron Lake Bluffs because sustained high winds pose safety concerns for cranes suspending protective wire mesh at the site. The mesh must be lowered, which would put the site at increased risk of falling debris.

Highway 4 is expected to open to limited travel as early as the weekend of June 24-25, 2023, after a wildfire closed the route on June 6.

The Highway 4 Kennedy Hill construction site is open to two-way traffic until Monday, Jan. 2, 2023, with no delays while crews shut down for a holiday.

Two-way traffic will start flowing again this winter on the Kennedy Hill section of Highway 4, reducing delays for people travelling between Port Alberni and the west coast of Vancouver Island. 

Drivers are advised that from Thursday, Nov. 17 until Saturday Nov. 19, the Kennedy Hill section of Highway 4 will not have the typical 2 a.m. release of queued traffic between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m.
