Infoline Highlights: Coverage for the week of January 7-11
Building Permits - The value of building permits increased 14.3% (seasonally adjusted) in November from the previous month. Large increases in permits for commercial (+127.2%) and industrial (+64.5%) buildings offset decreases in residential (‑7.4%) and institutional (‑5.7%) projects.

Price of New Housing - The cost of new housing in the province’s capital city was higher in November than in the same month of 2017. The 1.0% increase in Victoria was the result of a climb in both housing prices (+1.2%), and land value (+0.6%).

Exports - The value of B.C.’s commodity exports rose 7.3% through the first 11 months of 2018 compared to January to November 2017. There were increased exports to most of B.C.’s major trade partners, including the United States (+2.7%), Mainland China (+5.5%), Japan (+15.2%), the European Union (+19.1%), India (+52.7%) and Taiwan (+34.6%).

Industrial Product Price Index - Canadian manufacturers’ selling prices were 2.8% higher in November 2018 than in the same month of 2017. The increase was mostly attributable to climbing prices for energy and petroleum (+3.6%), pulp and paper (+11.3%) and primary ferrous metal (+14.0%) products.
