It is the time of year when people head out onto Crown land to pick edible wild mushrooms, specifically fire morels, in areas previously burned by wildfire.

People harvesting mushrooms need to be aware that even though the area may have already been burned once, there is still potential for another wildfire to start. Please be extremely cautious with cigarettes and other sources of flame and ensure your campfire is completely out before leaving the area. Check for any open fire restrictions by visiting: http://bcwildfire.ca/hprScripts/WildfireNews/Bans.asp

The trees in some of these areas may also be affected by the mountain pine beetle, meaning they are particularly weak and brittle. There is a risk that branches and trees may fall, even with slight wind present.

Remember that anyone caught in the act of littering or causing environmental damage to Crown land may be ticketed or fined. Remember to "pack-in, pack-out" - what you bring in to a site should be taken home afterwards.
