The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of the person who died at the Occupy Vancouver encampment on Nov. 5, 2011.

The deceased is Ashlie Gough, aged 23, of Victoria. She was found unresponsive in a tent at the site about 4:40 p.m. Despite aggressive resuscitative efforts, she could not be revived.

The Coroners Service investigation is in its preliminary stages, and it is inappropriate to speculate on a cause of death. There is no evidence to suggest the death was suspicious in nature. An autopsy will take place early this week. Toxicology analysis will be undertaken as part of the examination.

The Coroners Service has been in communication with Ms. Gough's family who ask that members of the media respect their privacy at this difficult time.

The Coroners Service expresses our sympathy to the family and friends of Ms. Gough.

An update briefing is expected to be held on Monday, Nov. 7 (time and place to be announced on the morning of Nov. 7).
