The BC Coroners Service is investigating the death of Matthew Huszar, whose body was found by boaters last week in the waters of False Creek near the Quayside Marina.
The BC Coroners Service Identification and Disaster Response Unit (IDRU) confirmed the identification of Mr. Huszar, who was 25 when he went missing on Dec. 16, 2011. He had last been seen shortly before midnight, leaving an office Christmas party held at a pub in Gastown, a distance of about 1.7 km from where the body was found. A massive search undertaken at the time did not yield any positive results.
Preliminary investigation suggests Mr. Huszar died shortly after he was last seen. There is no evidence of foul play and the investigation is now focused on determining the cause and manner of his death.
The family of Mr. Huszar has been notified of the confirmation of his death. On behalf of family members, the BC Coroners Service requests that the family's privacy be respected at this difficult time.
