The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a man who died in an avalanche near Valemount on Jan. 18, 2014.
The man is Kym Alvin Avery Wilson, aged 28, of Warburg, Alberta, a small community about 60 km west of Leduc in central Alberta.
Mr. Wilson was one of a party of five who had travelled to the Clemina area south of Valemount for a day of snowmobiling. They were snowmobiling on an area known as Goat Ridge when Mr. Wilson was caught up in an avalanche. He was found deceased several hours later beneath about one metre of snow. A specialized rescue team from Parks Canada was able to recover Mr. Wilson the next day after ensuring that the area was safe from the risk of further avalanches for the rescue teams.
The BC Coroners Service and RCMP continue to investigate this death.
The family of Mr. Wilson has been notified of his death. On behalf of the family, the BC Coroners Service asks that the media respect their privacy at this difficult time.
