BC Corrections invites South Okanagan residents interested in becoming correctional officers to attend information sessions in Osoyoos, Penticton and Oliver.

With the new Okanagan Correctional Centre slated to open in 2016, creating more than 240 correctional officer positions in the area, these sessions will help prepare those interested for the next steps in the process.

Throughout October and into November, BC Corrections, in partnership with the Justice Institute of BC, will host:

  • Orientation sessions (two hours) providing an overview of correctional work, including the culture, safety and security, team work and professionalism, which are fundamental aspects of the job.
  • Readiness sessions (either two full days or four consecutive evenings) focusing on corrections and the justice system, the roles and duties of a correctional officer and the unique needs of the offender population, along with information on preparing to apply.

  • More than 240 full-time correctional officer jobs will be opening up in the region for both experienced officers and new recruits.
