KELOWNA - The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a man who died following a fall on Sky Pilot Mountain near Squamish on Sept. 13, 2014.

He is Michael Taylor, aged 29, of Victoria.

On the morning of Sept. 13, 2014, Mr. Taylor and a friend travelled to Sky Pilot Mountain with the aim of reaching the summit of the 2,025 metre peak. While traversing Stadium Glacier on the mountain at about 11:30 a.m., Mr. Taylor slipped and fell approximately 300 metres down the glacier. Despite help provided almost immediately by fellow-mountaineers who were in the area, he died at the scene.

The BC Coroners Service and RCMP continue to investigate this death.

Mr. Taylor’s family has been notified of his death. On behalf of family members, the BC Coroners Service asks that the media respect their privacy at this difficult time.

The BC Coroners Service would like to extend special thanks to Squamish Search and Rescue and the RCMP’s Emergency Response Team Aerial Extrication Team for their invaluable assistance in this case.
