Premier Christy Clark issued the following statement to commemorate the National Day of Honour:
“Across Canada, people are gathering today to commemorate the courageous and honourable efforts of the more than 40,000 Canadians who served in Afghanistan.
“Today’s National Day of Honour is an opportunity for all Canadians to express their pride and gratitude. It’s an opportunity to recognize their bravery and acknowledge everything they accomplished. For more than a decade, the Canadian Armed Forces maintained the example set by other veterans, and played a vital role in bringing peace and order to Afghanistan, making the country and the world a safer, better place. There is no higher calling.
“May those who lost their lives rest in peace knowing their sacrifice was not in vain.
“We will be forever grateful.”
