Effective today, Service BC is expanding the services it offers, by partnering with the Ministry of Social Development and Social Innovation (SDSI) in the community of Fort St. John.
This move is intended to help cut red tape, extend office hours for clients and give the community a ‘one-stop-shop’ for a wide range of government services, including driver’s licensing, fish and wildlife licensing, Medical Services Plan (MSP), and income assistance.
In the new integrated location, Service BC will expand SDSI front-counter services by an additional five hours per day, from the existing hours of 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. to 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday.
Service BC delivers hundreds of government services and programs in person, online and over the phone to B.C. residents, businesses and visitors. Currently, 35 Service BC locations provide services to SDSI clients in British Columbia.
Quotes:
Minister of Social Development and Social Innovation Michelle Stilwell –
“Integrating Ministry of Social Development and Social Innovation offices with Service BC will enhance service delivery for our clients in Fort St. John by extending the number of hours that in-person services are available. This is something we have been doing throughout the province and with the opening of the Fort St. John location, ministry offices are now co-located with 35 Service BC Centres in British Columbia.”
Minister of Small Business, Red Tape Reduction & Responsible for the Liquor Distribution Branch Coralee Oakes –
“One of the key themes we heard last fall during our public engagement on reducing red tape was improving access to government services. These changes improve service delivery, saving people time and frustration. Integrating Service BC centres with social development offices is a common-sense way of reducing red tape by making it easier and faster to access government services in communities across the province.”
Peace River North MLA Pat Pimm –
“Consolidating the Fort St. John SDSI office with the local services BC office will benefit SDSI clients with extended hours and more availability to other services at the same time.”
