Facts about the CleanBC Building Innovation Fund

Approved CleanBC Building Innovation Fund (CBBIF) projects are funded through one of five streams:

  • The material, component and system manufacturing stream supports investment in manufacturing facilities to diversify and expand existing product lines or commercialize new product lines.
  • The digital technology solutions stream supports technology development for new or improved digital solutions.
  • The demonstration projects stream helps offset the incremental capital or operational costs of projects that demonstrate new technologies or applications, relative to industry standards.
  • The open call for innovations stream supports other types of activities not covered by the other funding streams, such as product development, testing and certification.
  • Information sharing and market transformation is a new category for CBBIF projects that supports information dissemination and sharing, such as case studies, research reports or informational videos, and undertake related activities, such as workshops.

Applications to the CBBIF are evaluated by an expert panel based on three main criteria:

  • Alignment with the CleanBC Roadmap to 2030, which outlines the extent to which the project advances the availability, acceptance and affordability of energy-efficient and low-carbon building solutions in alignment with the provincial strategies related to greenhouse gas emission reductions.
  • Economic development, equity and reconciliation, which is the extent to which the project creates or restores jobs, economic development opportunities and other benefits to British Columbians, including for vulnerable or marginalized communities and Indigenous Peoples.
  • Organizational capacity, which is the capacity of the applicant to complete the proposed work.
