Premier David Eby has issued the following statement marking Holi:
“Known as the Festival of Colours, Holi is being celebrated today by Hindu communities in British Columbia and around the world.
“Holi marks the end of winter and the arrival of spring, and honours the values of love, joy and renewal.
“On the eve of Holi, bonfires are lit to signify the burning away of negativity and evil. The following day, people celebrate by painting each other with gulal, a brightly coloured powder, and spend the evening gathering with friends and family to enjoy traditional foods, such as gujiya.
“An ancient festival filled with vibrant colours and community connection, Holi reminds us to celebrate the values of unity, diversity and equality.
“On behalf of the Government of British Columbia, I wish all those celebrating a peaceful and joyful Holi.
“Holi Hai!”
