Local residents are invited to share their input on the development of the Mackenzie forest landscape plan (FLP), which will guide long-term forest management in the area.

“This is an opportunity for Mackenzie residents to share what matters most about your forests,” said Ravi Parmar, Minister of Forests. “Forests are part of who we are and your voices guide how they’re managed. As I lead a trade mission in Asia to grow markets for B.C. wood, I’m reminded that our forests connect communities here at home to opportunities around the world.”

People can share their thoughts through a survey, open from Monday, Nov. 10 until Dec. 22, 2025. Representatives from the Ministry of Forests Mackenzie FLP team will staff an information booth so people can learn more about forest landscape planning and ask questions.

To promote accessibility and ensure all members of the public can provide input, there will be a computer on site the public can use to answer the survey. People will have a private space when they use the computer and, if needed, can ask ministry staff to help navigate the survey site .

FLPs are intended to be developed in partnership with First Nations to ensure meaningful participation in forestry planning and decision-making. Tsay Keh Dene Nation has partnered with the Province on the Mackenzie FLP. Engagement with other First Nations in the area continues.

Community engagement is also a key part of every FLP, ensuring everyone in the area has an opportunity to be heard. While engagement methods may vary by region, the intent is to gather input from forest licensees, local communities, subject-matter experts and stakeholders.

Through the initial engagement process with First Nations and forest licence-holders, key themes have emerged that will be integrated into the survey for public feedback to reflect community priorities.

Developing FLPs is a new approach to forest stewardship that establishes clear direction for the management of forest-related values, such as old-growth trees, biodiversity, ecosystem health, climate change, watershed health and wildfire risk.

• B.C. has 15 forest landscape tables that are at various phases of planning, representing 42% of the area intended for FLPs.
• FLP design is guided by five key objectives: 
  • manage the values placed on forest ecosystems by First Nations;  
  • support the protection and conservation of the environment;
  • support production and supply of timber in the forest landscape area; 
  • manage the values placed on ecosystems by local communities; and 
  • prevent, mitigate and adapt to effects caused by significant disturbances to forests and forest health.
