Federal grants counter hate, enhance community safety in B.C.

At the National Forum on Combatting Antisemitism held on March 6, 2025, the federal government announced a $10-million funding package to support provincial initiatives aimed at addressing and preventing hate.

Of that, $4 million was allocated to the B.C. government to strengthen efforts in countering hate, improve training and address public safety concerns through the Shift B.C. program.

Eight police agencies received a total of $3.75 million in funding, and $250,000 was provided to two non-profit agencies:

  • Abbotsford Police Department, $285,000
  • Delta Police Department, $280,000
  • Metro Vancouver Transit Police, $175,000
  • Surrey Police Service, $630,000
  • Saanich Police Department, $270,000
  • Victoria Police Department, $1,070,000
  • Vancouver Police Department, $900,000
  • West Vancouver Police Department, $135,000
  • Canadian Police Knowledge Network, $125,000
  • Family Services of Greater Vancouver, $125,000
