What to know about B.C. schools
  • As of March 2026:
    • B.C. has seen more than a 22% increase in the number of teachers working in classrooms since 2017, for a total of 49,442 teachers.
    • There has been an increase of education assistants by more than 46% since 2017, with almost 17,000 education assistants working in B.C. schools.
    • There are 1,172 counsellors, a 74.4% increase since 2017. 
  • Since 2017, the Province has approved more than $7 billion for 250 school capital projects to create nearly 50,000 new student seats and almost 40,000 seismically safer seats in B.C. schools.
  • Throughout B.C., more than 29,500 new student seats and more than 35,000 seismically safer seats are being used by students.
  • Families have access to almost 52,000 child care spaces on school grounds in B.C., a 61% increase since ChildCareBC launched in 2018.
