What to know about the project
  • The cook-training project is funded by the Government of Canada through the Canada-British Columbia Labour Market Development Agreement and delivered through B.C.’s Project-Based Labour Market Training initiative.
  • Labour market development agreements are bilateral agreements between the Government of Canada and provinces and territories that support employment programs and services designed to help Canadians prepare for, find and maintain employment.
  • Dan’s Legacy Foundation is delivering the cook-training project in Vancouver and Dan’s Diner Social Enterprise in New Westminster.
  • The foundation provides trauma-informed counselling and wraparound supports to at-risk youth and young adults.
  • Participants receive essential skills training, occupational training and hands-on workplace experience.
  • Eligible participants may also receive living supports through WorkBC to assist with basic living expenses, such as food, shelter and utilities.
  • The project supports people receiving income assistance who face barriers to employment.
