The community of Tofino and members of the Ahousaht First Nation came together on Oct. 25 to respond to a capsized whale watching vessel, working together to save the lives of 21 of the 27 people on board.
Premier Christy Clark visited Tofino on Oct. 27 was joined by Minister of State for Emergency Preparedness Naomi Yamamoto, Mayor of Tofino Josie Osborne, and representatives of the Ahousaht First Nation including Chief Greg Louie. She thanked the community, responding agencies and organizations and members of the First Nation for their efforts. Clark said she would be nominating Mayor Osborne and Chief Louie for the BC Government’s Medal of Good Citizenship.
