The Ministry of Forests will conduct aerial-spray treatments in the Port Alberni area in spring 2023 to eradicate spongy moths and minimize the risk they pose to forests, farms, orchards and trees.

BC Housing has selected the Port Alberni Friendship Centre (PAFC) as the new operator of the Our Home at 8th supportive housing and shelter building in Port Alberni.

The Highway 4 Kennedy Hill construction site is open to two-way traffic until Monday, Jan. 2, 2023, with no delays while crews shut down for a holiday.

Two-way traffic will start flowing again this winter on the Kennedy Hill section of Highway 4, reducing delays for people travelling between Port Alberni and the west coast of Vancouver Island. 

Drivers are advised that from Thursday, Nov. 17 until Saturday Nov. 19, the Kennedy Hill section of Highway 4 will not have the typical 2 a.m. release of queued traffic between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m.

People in Port Alberni at risk of harm or victimization will benefit from a $30,000 grant to create a community-based team of front-line workers to deliver better and faster access to services.

People in 55 communities throughout the province, including eight on Vancouver Island, will benefit from more than $17 million in grants in lieu of municipal property taxes this year.
