The Province has confirmed an additional case of chronic wasting disease in British Columbia, found in a white-tailed deer in the Kootenay region.

George Heyman, Minister of Environment and Climate Change Strategy, and Nathan Cullen, Minister of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship, have released the following statement about a new partnership between the Province and the Grizzly Bear Foundation aimed at reducing human-wildlife conflicts and enhancing the well-being of grizzly and black bears in the province:

A new collaborative approach to land-use planning on northern Vancouver Island will help protect ‘Na̲mg̲is First Nation cultural values and biodiversity, while providing operational clarity for the forest industry within ‘Na̲mg̲is territory.

Water has begun to overflow the landslide blocking the Chilcotin River near Farwell Canyon.

With the assistance of external experts, B.C. government staff continue to monitor the Chilcotin River landslide 24/7, conduct aerial survey flights and gather additional technical data.

Updated modelling of the landslide across the Chilcotin River provides an improved assessment of worst-case scenario risks to people and communities from a sudden failure of the landslide structure and associated flooding.     

As active monitoring continues at the site of the Chilcotin River landslide, the River Forecast Centre (RFC) has updated its forecast for potential flooding.

A flood warning, flood watches and an evacuation order remain in place due to a landslide over the Chilcotin River near Farwell Canyon.

B.C. and shíshálh Nation are making further updates to changes proposed in the shíshálh swiya Dock Management Plan (DMP) to provide additional predictability for Sunshine Coast dock and boathouse owners.
