People in Powell River with complex mental-health and substance-use challenges who are at risk of experiencing homelessness will soon benefit from 20 new complex-care housing spaces.

Single-parent families, seniors and people living with disabilities are among the people moving into 42 new affordable rental homes built for people with low to moderate incomes in Powell River.

Katrine Conroy, Minister of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development, has released the following statement in response to Paper Excellence’s announcement of indefinite curtailment of its Catalyst Paper tiskʷat mill at Powell River:

Construction has started on a new housing development with 24 affordable rental homes for families and seniors with low to moderate incomes in Powell River.

Not-for-profit groups that deliver social services to people and families throughout northern Vancouver Island and central coast are receiving support through B.C.’s Community Gaming Grants program.

Effective immediately, British Columbia’s chief forester Diane Nicholls has set new allowable annual cut (AAC) levels for the Tree Farm License (TFL) 43, located near Powell River. 

A new organics processing facility will produce Class A compost, support agriculture and food security for the Tla’amin Nation, service the qathet Regional District and Powell River, and provide new jobs and economic opportunities.
