As snow continues to fall throughout the Lower Mainland, drivers and commuters are advised to plan ahead to avoid delays.   

Drivers are advised that heavy snow is in Environment and Climate Change Canada’s forecast this weekend for Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley.  

With snow flurries possible tonight and into Wednesday, and more winter weather on the way for the weekend, drivers are advised to be ready for snowy and slushy conditions on Lower Mainland roads.

More wintery conditions could create challenging driving conditions in Metro Vancouver this evening and into the Wednesday morning commute. 

The first of two tunnel-boring machines (TBMs) that began excavating for the Broadway Subway Project last fall broke through to the future Mount Pleasant Station on the evening of Monday, Jan. 23, 2023.

The Alex Fraser Bridge is closed due to the risk of ice falling from cables onto vehicles.

Drivers are asked to avoid travel unless absolutely necessary from tonight through Saturday afternoon, as Environment Canada is warning that snowfall, switching to freezing rain and rain, is expected to create adverse driving conditions throughout the south coast, including the Fraser Valley.

Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for the Lower Mainland, with snowfall accumulations of 10 to 15 centimetres expected to begin late afternoon Monday, Dec. 19 until the afternoon of Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2022.
