Mike Farnworth, Deputy Premier and Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General, has released the following statement in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine:

With some highways still damaged by flooding and mudslides, and the potential for further flooding this week, the Province is extending the provincial state of emergency.

As heavy snowfall is forecast across southwestern B.C., now is the time for British Columbians to prepare for cold temperatures, power outages and slick streets.  

As more winter weather rolls in provincewide, now is the time for British Columbians to prepare for extremely cold temperatures, power outages and slick streets.  

With recovery efforts still underway in communities affected by severe flooding and highways damaged by flooding and mudslides, the Province is extending the provincial state of emergency.

A strong winter storm is forecast to affect many parts of B.C. from Friday through to Sunday.

To help vulnerable young people avoid gang and criminal lifestyles, the Province is providing more than $486,000 in grants to fund mentorship programs in 24 school districts around British Columbia.

Police will get a refresh of mandatory training so they can give enhanced response to people who suffer intimate partner violence.
