The Province is enhancing supports in order to provide even better crisis line services for British Columbians.

Sheila Malcolmson, Minister of Mental Health and Addictions, has released the following statement regarding the BC Coroners Service’s report on illicit drug toxicity deaths for October 2021:

British Columbia has taken an important step forward to prevent drug poisoning deaths by applying to the federal government to remove criminal penalties for people who possess small amounts of illicit drugs for personal use.

It is not acceptable to interrupt vital, life-saving services to exercise the right to protest, and it’s taking a toll on care providers’ mental health.

We are working hard to build a seamless, integrated system of mental health and substance-use care that can be accessed quickly and close to home.

British Columbians seeking mental health and substance use supports will have better access to quality services with the introduction of consistent, high-quality training resources for peer support workers throughout the province.
