Sixteen new cameras and 33 new views were added to the DriveBC webcam network in 2022, helping people plan for traffic and weather conditions on British Columbia’s roads.   

Drivers are advised to avoid unnecessary travel on Vancouver Island starting Thursday evening, and into Friday and Saturday, as Environment Canada is warning that snowfall switching to freezing rain and rain is expected to create adverse driving conditions.

The Province’s commercial vehicle chain-up rules are being strictly enforced for vehicles travelling Highway 1 over the Malahat.

Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for Highway 1 over the Malahat, the Alberni Summit on Highway 4, and other parts of eastern Vancouver Island on Monday, Dec. 19, forecasting as much as 20 centimetres of snow.

Drivers are advised that heavy snow, freezing rain and high winds overnight are expected to create poor driving conditions in many parts of the Fraser Valley and throughout coastal B.C.

Drivers are advised of a snowfall warning for Highway 1 over the Malahat, the Alberni summit on Highway 4, and other parts of eastern Vancouver Island on Friday, Dec. 2, 2022.

Drivers travelling overnight on Nov. 29 and 30, 2022, can expect delays on the Malahat (Highway 1) near the Tunnel Hill project site as crews bring in equipment for the next phase of repairs.

With warm weather continuing well into fall this year throughout much of the province, it may come as a shock to see snow on provincial highways.
