Katrine Conroy, Minister of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development, and George Chow, Minister of State for Trade, have issued the following statement in response to the U.S. Department of Commerce’s second administrative review and its preliminary determination regarding countervailing and anti-dumping duties applied to Canada’s softwood lumber exports to the U.S.:

Camping in identified campsites and motorized-vehicle use (including the use of off-road vehicles) on identified recreation trails in Koocanusa are now open to people living in the local community.

As the weather continues to warm up in many parts of the province, British Columbians are being urged to do their part to prevent human-caused wildfires and help keep communities safe.

Heavy rainfall and frost-related damage have resulted in forest service roads in the Omineca Region being closed to most industrial vehicles to prevent further deterioration of road surfaces and to help keep motorists safe.

Effective immediately, areas damaged by last year’s Christie Mountain fire in the McTaggart-Cowan/nsək'łniw't wildlife management area (WMA) will be closed for all public use.

The B.C. government plans to conduct aerial-spray treatments north of Courtenay to prevent gypsy moth populations from becoming established and to minimize the risk they pose to forests, farms, orchards and trees.  

Effective immediately, the allowable annual cut (AAC) level for the Tree Farm Licence (TFL) 56 north of Revelstoke will remain at the level set in September 2010.

 The B.C. government is investing over $5 million to help Community Forest Agreement holders complete wildfire risk reduction projects as part of the Province’s economic recovery plan to create jobs and help communities deal with the impacts of COVID-19.
