Budget 2024 takes on the big challenges people are facing today by helping with everyday costs, delivering more homes faster, strengthening health care and services, and building a stronger, cleaner economy.

B.C. is ramping up safety and supports for survivors of gender-based violence with a new three-year action plan released on Sunday, Dec. 10, 2023.

The Province is making changes to help keep British Columbians safe, launching a new Safer Communities Action Plan with immediate steps that will strengthen enforcement to keep those who commit repeat violent offences off our streets, and strengthen services to build safe, healthy communities for everyone.

The Province, in co-operation with British Columbia’s Urban Mayors’ Caucus (BCUMC), has hired two experts to investigate and report on prolific offenders and random violent attacks, and the necessary actions.

Displaced Ukrainians will have access to more vital community programs and supports as the Province expands the Service BC phone line to include United Way British Columbia’s bc211 service.

Budget 2022 reverses cuts made in 2002, supporting survivors of sexual assault with $22 million to provide stable funding for community-based sexual assault response services.

As people pause to recognize the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and the start of 16 days of activism against gender-based violence, focused engagement will take place early in the new year in order to deliver a multi-year action plan to address gender-based violence by the end of 2022.
