A dedicated left-turn lane on Highway 1 at Gardi Road near Kamloops has opened to traffic, improving safety for local residents, tourists and commercial drivers.

Effective immediately, the province is expanding its network of where trucks can haul heavy, high value cargo, such as oversized construction materials used in the oil and gas industry.

Minister of Community, Sport and Cultural Development Peter Fassbender on behalf of Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Todd Stone was joined by Ron McKinnon, MP for Coquitlam-Port Coquitlam and TransLink board chair Barry Forbes to celebrate the completion of the tunnel boring, an important milestone in the construction of the Evergreen Line.

Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Todd Stone has issued the following statement on the Highway 16 transportation symposium taking place in Smithers: 

A new, $5-million southbound off-ramp at the Leigh Road Interchange on Highway 1 will open this weekend, improving access to the City of Langford.

Work is underway on the new Fort Nelson River Bridge on Highway 77. The $35-million project is part of the Province’s 10 year transportation plan, B.C. on the Move.

The new Wildmare Bridge on Highway 97 is now complete, announced Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Todd Stone. The $4.1-million project is part of the Province’s 10-year transportation plan, B.C. on the Move.
