On behalf of Premier Christy Clark and the Government of British Columbia, I would like to congratulate the Sunshine Coast Regional District on the completion of the enhancement project at Dakota Ridge Winter Recreation Area.
I applaud the work that has been accomplished to enhance road access, parking and facilities at Dakota Ridge Winter Recreation Area. This popular destination already provides terrific options for winter fun and these upgrades will only add to its appeal for Sunshine Coast residents, visitors and their families. Celebrating this project's completion on B.C.'s first Family Day is the perfect way to spend the day.
In British Columbia, our government strongly believes in the benefits of physical activity. Being active promotes healthy lifestyles, happy families, strong local economies and great communities. That's why the B.C government established the $30‐million Community Recreation Program to assist local governments in covering the costs of infrastructure projects that help make their community a healthier, more active place to live. In the Spring of 2012, the B.C. government was proud to provide a $319,120 Community Recreation grant to the Sunshine Coast Regional District to support this enhancement project at Dakota Ridge Winter Recreation Area.
Projects such as this are not achieved without the coordinated efforts of many individuals. I want to thank the Sunshine Coast Regional District, the Bear Hydro Limited Partnership and everyone else involved for their hard work and support in making this project happen. I commend your vision, determination and dedication to this project. Together, we are helping to foster a vibrant, more active and healthy community through important infrastructure projects. I hope you have a wonderful day of celebrations. Congratulations again on a job well done.
Sincerely,
Bill Bennett
Minister of Community, Sport and Cultural Development
