Students have many decisions to make leading up to graduation. Now is the time they start thinking about what they want to do in life after high school.
The B.C. Ministry of Education is helping them with those decisions by making the B.C. Grad Planner available to every high school student in the province. The planner can help students determine what courses they have to take, what courses they want to take, and what courses they need to take to be successful in fields ranging from trades and technology to liberal arts and humanities.
The planner also offers a glimpse into the future of B.C.’s growing economy by listing jobs that will be in demand from 2015-25. Among the jobs with the most future openings are accountants, electricians and registered nurses.
Key information offered in the guide:
- Required courses and elective credits students need to graduate;
- Provincial awards and scholarships available to students;
- Different options for earning credits, like Independent Directed Study and Industry Training Programs.
Launched in 2004, the Grad Planner goes out each September to help students make decisions as they work towards graduation. The planner is now available in English, and will soon be released in French.
Quote:
Mike Bernier, Minister of Education –
“The grad years are an exciting time. It is great to know that students will be able to make the most of it by choosing the courses they’re passionate about. Their decisions today will help them play a key role in B.C.’s growing economy.”
