Education Minister Mike Bernier issued the following statement on the situation at the Vancouver school district:

“We are witnessing an unprecedented situation at the Vancouver school board. There are serious allegations regarding actions by trustees and concerns about toxicity at the district fostering fear by staff. Since last week, the entire senior management team has gone on medical leave.

“I want to wish each of the individuals on leave a speedy recovery. This situation has been difficult for staff, parents, and students in Vancouver.

"When my ministry was made aware of the allegations about the behaviour of trustees, we forwarded these serious and troubling concerns to WorkSafeBC. I am hoping the WorkSafeBC process is completed quickly so they can offer a clear picture of what has happened.”
