Crews have started work on a temporary access road at Old Fort Road to provide local residents the access they need to get to and from their community.
Construction of the temporary access road began once slide movement stabilized. Ministry staff estimate residents will be able to access the road as early as Thursday afternoon, July 9, 2020.
Until the temporary access road is complete and deemed safe, Old Fort Road will remain closed for safety reasons.
Construction equipment, maintenance contractor staff and geotechnical staff remain on site, and assessments and work are ongoing.
The ministry has been diligent in efforts to restore access ever since ground movement was detected and the road was closed for safety reasons to all but emergency vehicles in late June.
The ministry will continue to work with its partners and the community in monitoring the situation.
Residents are asked to report any signs of slide movement or incidents to the local maintenance contractor, Dawson Road Maintenance Ltd., which can be reached 24/7 at its emergency line: 1 800 842-4122.
