Drivers are advised Telegraph Creek Road (Highway 51) is closed between Dease Lake and the community of Telegraph Creek due to a washout.
No detours are available.
Initial reports indicate the washout was caused by a release from a lake above the road due to the heavy snow melt occurring in the area.
Information about when the road may be partially or fully open to vehicle traffic is not available. The ministry is working to resolve this issue as quickly and safely as possible.
The ministry is working with the Tahltan Nation, RCMP, Emergency Management BC and the Regional District of Kitimat Stikine to determine impacts to the road, possible fixes and timelines to reconnect the community of Telegraph Creek.
Ministry geotechnical engineers are on site to begin conducting a geotechnical assessment. The maintenance contractor has equipment mobilized and will begin repairs when it has been deemed safe to do so.
The ministry apologizes for any inconvenience.
Motorists are reminded to obey posted speed limits, traffic control devices and flag persons.
