What to know about WorkSafeBC’s new director

Raji Mangat, KC, is a leader of a non-profit organization and a practising lawyer with more than 20 years of experience in constitutional and administrative law.

Her most-recent role has been as executive director of West Coast LEAF, a non-profit legal organization working to improve gender justice.

Mangat serves on the boards of Legal Aid BC, Health Justice and Salal Sexual Violence Support Centre. She is an adviser to the Law Commission of Canada and has served on the national committee of the Canadian Civil Liberties Association.

Mangat is an adjunct professor at the University of Victoria’s faculty of law, where she teaches a course on civil liberties and the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. She was selected as a delegate to the 2022 Governor General’s Canadian Leadership Conference and received the Law Society of British Columbia’s 2019 Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Award.

Mangat received a juris doctor degree from the University of Victoria (2003), a master of arts in International Affairs from Carleton University (1999), and a bachelor of arts in political science and international relations from the University of British Columbia (1997). In 2021, she completed a certificate in community capacity building from Simon Fraser University.

She was awarded the King Charles III Coronation Medal and was designated King's Counsel in 2024.
