Drivers travelling through Queensborough are advised to plan and expect delays as nighttime lane closures are planned on the Queensborough Bridge, starting this week, to work on deck renewal.
The nighttime lane closures are expected to occur from Wednesday, April 1, 2026, through to fall 2027, with a winter shutdown planned between November 2026 to March 2027 when no work will take place.
During the nighttime closure windows, traffic will flow one lane in each direction over the bridge. The closures are necessary to allow the Ministry of Transportation and Transit’s contractor to safely complete work on the deck renewal, and lane closures will be restricted to nighttime hours only to support the flow of traffic through the busy area during daytime.
Lane closures are anticipated to take place at the following times:
- Weekdays – lane closures from 9:30 p.m. until 5 a.m.
- Weekends – lane closures from 9:30 p.m. until 9 a.m.
As work is weather-dependent, timelines may shift.
During construction closure times, lane width will be reduced to 3.5 metres. Oversized vehicles exceeding those widths will be stopped and may need to wait an extended time to cross. Oversized vehicles are encouraged to use alternative routes, such as stal̕əw̓asəm Bridge or Knight Street Bridge.
Pedestrian access will be maintained in both directions during construction and sidewalks will remain open.
Drivers are reminded to obey all traffic signage and traffic-control personnel in the area, and adjust speeds as posted through the construction zone. Drivers should plan additional travel time through the route during the closure schedule.
