Summary
- A section of Allenby Road will close to traffic in both directions from April 13 until fall 2026 to allow for permanent repairs
- The repairs are Phase 2 of work to address slope instabilities caused by the 2021 floods
- Drivers are advised to only detour via Highway 1 during construction
__________
A portion of Allenby Road between Boys Road and Miller Road in Duncan will close starting Monday, April 13, 2026, to allow crews to complete permanent slope stabilization work needed to reopen the road following damage from the 2021 floods.
The closure is required because work will take place immediately beside the road, leaving no space for equipment or a safe work zone for workers.
Permanent repairs to restore full access
Phase 2 work completes long-term slope stabilization needed to safely restore Allenby Road to full, two-lane traffic. The work includes removing temporary traffic signals, permanent slope stabilization and related safety improvements.
Traffic impacts and access
- Allenby Road will be closed between just past Boys Road and Miller Road.
- The closure is expected to remain in place until fall 2026.
- Local access will be maintained.
- Businesses and the trailer park/campground on Allenby Road near Boys Road will remain accessible.
- Drivers should use Highway 1 as an alternative route and are encouraged to plan ahead and follow the direction of traffic-control personnel.
Working with local partners
The project is being delivered in partnership with Cowichan Tribes. Emergency services and other partners will be kept informed to ensure they are aware of the closure and can plan accordingly during the closure.
