Niki Sharma, Attorney General, and Mable Elmore, Parliamentary Secretary for Anti-Racism Initiatives, have released the following statement marking Asian Heritage Month:

Nearly 80 people and organizations were nominated for the 2024 B.C. Multiculturalism and Anti-Racism Awards, honouring their efforts to combat racism and create a more inclusive B.C.

To make sure people have consistent, safer access to court services, 13 new sheriff recruits will soon begin their careers as members of the BC Sheriff Service (BCSS).

Changes coming into effect Monday, Jan. 15, 2024, will reduce some of the difficulties for families going through separation or divorce in B.C., including those with pets.

More Indigenous people will have access to culturally safe, Indigenous-led legal supports and services with five new Indigenous Justice Centres (IJCs) now operating in Vancouver, Victoria, Nanaimo, Surrey and Kelowna.

B.C.’s justice system will be strengthened by the B.C. Sheriff Service’s (BCSS) comprehensive plan to support sheriffs and make sure people have consistent, safer access to court services.
