Sheila Malcolmson, Minister of Mental Health and Addictions, has released the following statement regarding the BC Coroners Service’s report on illicit drug toxicity deaths in September 2022:

Continued investment from the Province will help young people throughout Metro Vancouver access more free mental-health and substance-use supports.

Young people on the Sunshine Coast will soon have access to much-needed mental-health and substance-use supports through a new Foundry centre.

People in northwestern B.C. will soon have access to enhanced mental-health services in a new state-of-the-art Seven Sisters mental-health facility under construction in Terrace.

British Columbians living with overlapping brain injury, mental-health and substance-use challenges will benefit from a new research project that will explore these areas and propose solutions to meet people’s needs.

People in Cranbrook and surrounding areas will have access to new treatment and recovery options, as well as expanded mental health and substance use services, as the Province continues to build a comprehensive system of care throughout British Columbia.

Young people throughout Greater Vancouver will have increased access to expanded, community-based mental-health and recovery programs.

Young people in Squamish and surrounding areas can access much-needed mental-health and substance-use supports as Foundry Sea to Sky begins providing services.

More people will get mental-health and substance-use support when leaving correctional centres as B.C. creates new and expanded services for those at risk.
