Mike Farnworth, Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General, has released the following statement in recognition of National Police Week, May 12-18, 2024:

Penticton children and their families are benefiting from 34 new before- and after-school child care spaces at the Leapin Lizard’s Daycare Centre located on the grounds of Columbia Elementary school.

Emergency support services are available to people who are under evacuation order within the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality, including Fort Nelson and Fort Nelson First Nation due to wildfire.

Lyackson First Nation, Cowichan Tribes and the Province are celebrating a key reconciliation milestone that will enable the return of culturally signifciant land in the Cowichan River valley to two member communities of the Quw’utsun Nation.

People living in the Mission area are benefiting from more access to team-based longitudinal and urgent primary care with the opening of a new Urgent and Primary Care Centre (UPCC).

The Province is updating limited-entry hunting regulations to sustainably manage B.C. wildlife, respect First Nations’ hunting rights and provide hunters with a diversity of recreational and economic opportunities.

The Province is now accepting applications from eligible non-profit organizations for one-time funding that supports the vitality of British Columbia’s francophone community.                                                       

The Province has established an immediate Environment and Land Use Act order prohibiting jade mining activities on new tenures in northwestern B.C.

Young adults experiencing or at risk of homelessness now have access to 30 affordable homes with supports as they move into a new transitional-housing building.
