Local amateur and professional freshwater anglers are encouraged to come and share their experiences at an open house being hosted in Haida Gwaii by the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations.

As part of the ongoing review of freshwater fishing regulations, ministry biologists are seeking interested individuals to lend their ability and advice as part of a community-focused Freshwater Fisheries Regulation Advisory Committee. Those interested in this opportunity can learn more by attending the open house being held at:

Queen Charlotte City: Sept. 18, 2012

7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Yakoun Room, provincial operations office at 1229 Oceanview Drive.

Those interested in being part of the committee, but unable to attend the meeting in person, should contact Tracy Michalski in the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations at 250 751-3154 (toll free at 1 877 855-3222) or by email at Tracy.Michalski@gov.bc.ca before Sept. 14, 2012.

Once established, members of the committee will provide direct input on proposed regulations for the freshwater fishery in Haida Gwaii for both the commercial (guiding) and non-commercial sectors. This input will help inform amendments to future editions of the Freshwater Fishing Regulations Synopsis.

The Freshwater Fishing Regulations Synopsis is published every two years and contains all sport fishing regulations in effect in freshwater in British Columbia. It is the go-to sourcebook for anglers across the province. Each publication year, 450,000 copies of the Freshwater Fishing Regulations Synopsis are distributed to outdoor recreation shops throughout B.C.
