Great Bear Rainforest North Timber Supply Area (TSA)

The new Great Bear Rainforest North TSA is created from the former North Coast and Mid Coast TSAs with an allowable annual cut of 803,000 cubic metres effective Jan. 1, 2017. This includes a partition of 468,600 cubic metres limited to Crown land within the North Island Central Coast district and not within the Owikeno Lake basin. Another partition for 113,200 cubic metres is attributed to western redcedar and yellow cedar within the Coast Mountain district.

The new licence allocations are as follows:

The new Great Bear Rainforest South TSA is created from the mainland portions of the former Kingcome and Strathcona TSAs with an allowable annual cut of 830,500 cubic metres effective Jan. 1, 2017.

North Island Timber Supply Area (TSA)

The new North Island TSA is created from the Vancouver Island portions of the Kingcome and Strathcona TSAs with an allowable annual cut of 1,248,100 cubic metres effective Jan. 1, 2017.

The new licence allocations are as follows:

The reconfiguration of the timber supply areas affected seven licences held by Interfor, TimberWest and Western Forest Products. New licences will be created in the North Island TSA for these licensees to reflect the Vancouver Island portion of licences that were assigned to the Great Bear Rainforest South TSA. The new licences will be allocated as follows:

  • Interfor, five forest licences with timber volumes of 104,689 cubic metres/year, 63,495 cubic metres/year, 42,330 cubic metres/year, 36,047 cubic metres/year, 87,015 cubic metres/year
  • TimberWest, one forest licence with a timber volume of 14,880 cubic metres/year
  • Western Forest Products, one forest licence with a timber volume of 5,443 cubic metres/year
Pacific Timber Supply Area (TSA) and Tree Farm Licences

The Pacific TSA is comprised wholly of operating areas for BC Timber Sales and is in parcels on Vancouver Island and within the Great Bear Rainforest. Effective Jan. 1, 2017, the allowable annual cut for the Great Bear Rainforest portions of the TSA is 62,400 cubic metres and the allowable annual cut for the remainder is set at 1,279,700 cubic metres.

Also effective Jan. 1, 2017, the allowable annual cut for tree farm licences with portions in the Great Bear Rainforest is set as follows:

  • Tree Farm Licence 25 (Western Forest Products), 234,300 cubic metres (with 152,300 cubic metres for the northern portion and 82,000 cubic metres for the south).
  • Tree Farm Licence 39 (Western Forest Products), 41,300 cubic metres for the portion within the Great Bear Rainforest and 1,375,000 cubic metres for the remainder.
  • Tree Farm Licence 45 (Interfor), 140,000 cubic metres.
  • Tree Farm Licence 47 (TimberWest), 388,500 cubic metres for the portion within the Great Bear Rainforest, and 241,500 cubic metres for the remainder.
