British Columbia and Heiltsuk Nation have signed a reconciliation agreement that supports their ongoing work together to implement Heiltsuk rights and title.

Heiltsuk Nation and the provincial and federal governments have joined together to take tangible steps toward reconciliation and recognizing and implementing Heiltsuk Title and Rights, outside of the courts and Treaty process.

A new $1-million trust will be established to commemorate the visit of Their Royal Highnesses, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and celebrate the endorsement of the Great Bear Rainforest under The Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy initiative.

After reviewing the tenders, the ministry has decided to postpone this project until further notice.  The bids received were much higher than the ministry anticipated. The ministry will be considering next steps for the future delivery of this work.

The Government of British Columbia is providing $198,750 in B.C. Air Access Program funding to support infrastructure improvements at Bella Bella Airport.

Minister of Community, Sport and Cultural Development Peter Fassbender, on behalf of Premier Christy Clark, will present Patricia Housty, a well-known Bella Bella citizen, with the province’s newest honour, the Medal of Good Citizenship.
