First Nations and the Campbell River community will benefit from three new projects that will help rebuild habitats, strengthen local wild Pacific salmon populations and support sustainable fishing practices.

People in the Interior, Lower Mainland, central and north Vancouver Island will have better access to an increased supply of affordable local food with $7.5 million in funding to United Way British Columbia for more local food hubs.

New automatic water meters will help residents in Strathcona monitor and reduce their water consumption, limit water waste and support the sustainability of local ecosystems.

The Ministry of Forests will conduct aerial-spray treatments in the Campbell River area in spring 2023 to eradicate spongy moths and minimize the risk they pose to forests, farms, orchards and trees.

To minimize the risk invasive spongy moths pose to forests, farms, orchards and urban trees, and to prevent the moths from becoming permanently established, the Ministry of Forests plans to carry out a spongy moth treatment program in Campbell River during the spring.

People in 55 B.C. communities, including Campbell River and seven other Vancouver Island municipalities, will benefit from approximately $17.3 million in grants in lieu of municipal property taxes this year.

The Province, through BC Housing, has bought the former Rose Bowl Restaurant in Campbell River and will convert it into bridge housing for locals experiencing homelessness.
