Premier Christy Clark announced a $13.5-million investment in a new trades training facility at North Island College that will help prepare students for in-demand jobs in the skilled trades.

The Province, in partnership with the BC Lung Association, is improving air quality throughout B.C. by providing $13,400 to the Strathcona Regional District as part of the Provincial Wood Stove Exchange Program.

The B.C. government has distributed $75,497 in compensation for municipal property taxes to the City of Campbell River.

Students at Cortes Elementary Junior Secondary school will soon have a seismically safe school, thanks to $2.3 million from the Province’s award-winning Seismic Mitigation Program.

As part of the public safety funding announced in February 2016, the Province is committing $80,000 in funding toward a flood mitigation assessment project in the Strathcona Regional District.

Nanwakolas Council Society will soon have a labour market study that will provide a blueprint so its member First Nations can play a bigger role in B.C.’s diverse, growing and strong economy.

Members of the public are advised that sections of  the Rail Trail and the Elk River Timber Trail in the Beaver Lodge Forest Lands in Campbell River will be temporarily closed between January and April 2016 – weather permitting – to replace five bridges on the trails.

Work is now underway to improve safety and mobility for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians on northern Vancouver Island roads, as part of B.C. on the Move, the Province’s 10-year transportation plan.
