Gurpreet Kaur was living in her home district of Tarn Taran in India when she realized that she wanted to do something different from her current work as a nurse-midwife. A quick search on Google brought her information on Selkirk College in Castlegar and the college’s two-year Post Graduate Diploma in Gerontological Nursing.

Effective at noon (PDT) on Oct. 9, 2015, Category 3 open fires will be permitted throughout the Southeast Fire Centre, with the exception of the Boundary Fire Zone, due to a decreased risk of wildfires.

The BC Wildfire Service, in conjunction with BC Timber Sales and the Kaslo and District Community Forest Society, is planning to conduct two prescribed burns in the Kootenay Lake Fire Zone. Burning will take place between Oct. 8-10, 2015, weather conditions permitting.

Effective at noon (Pacific time) on Friday, Sept. 25, 2015 Category 2 open fires will be permitted within the Cranbrook Fire Zone and Category 3 open fires will be permitted in the Columbia Zone of the Southeast Fire Centre due to a decreased risk of wildfires.

Effective noon (Pacific time) Friday, Sept. 18, Category 2 open fires will be permitted within the Arrow and Kootenay Lake Fire Zones of the Southeast Fire Centre due to a decreased risk of wildfires.

Effective at 1 p.m. (Pacific time) on Monday, Sept. 14, 2015, Category 2 open fires will be permitted within the Columbia and Invermere Fire Zones of the Southeast Fire Centre due to a decreased risk of wildfires.

Sustained and persistent work by firefighters, cooler temperatures and significant precipitation have reduced wildfire activity in many areas of the Southeast Fire Centre.

The public access restriction that was in place for the Gladstone Forest Service Road has been rescinded effective immediately, since the wildfire burning in the Lynch Creek/Gladstone Provincial Park region is now 100% contained.

Effective immediately, the BC Wildfire Service is rescinding the public access restriction around the Big Sheep Creek wildfire west of Rossland, and specifically the Seven Summits Trail.

The public access restriction for the Caven, Wickman, Larch, Bloom and Teepee/Jim Creek Forest Service roads has been rescinded, effective immediately.
