As part of the Province’s recent investment of over $80 million in emergency preparedness and public safety, plans for major flood prevention projects were announced today.

Building on the economic benefits and jobs created by getting to yes on major projects and provincial investments in infrastructure, Chilliwack MLA John Martin announced immediate investments and a long-term action plan outlined in B.C.’s rural economic development strategy that will create jobs and economic opportunities in Chilliwack.

A new affordable housing project in Chilliwack has taken another step forward, with a groundbreaking ceremony taking place for the 80-unit development at 45603 Yale Rd.

Low-income families in need of affordable rental housing in Chilliwack will soon have access to 35 new units of affordable housing.

Students, teachers and staff at Little Mountain Elementary school in the Chilliwack school district will benefit from $187,318 in provincial School Enhancement Program funding.  

The Government of British Columbia is investing $220,000 to expand Chilliwack’s temporary winter shelter, increasing the number of shelter beds in the city.

Skilled trades students at the University of the Fraser Valley (UFV) will benefit from the purchase of new industry-standard trades equipment as part of a $187,000 investment by the Province.

Major construction will begin in early October on the project to replace the Vedder Bridge and upgrade the Vedder/Chilliwack Lake Road intersection.
