Drivers are advised to avoid Highway 1 through Coquitlam while BC Hydro completes repairs to powerlines.

VICTORIA – Minister of State for Emergency Preparedness Naomi Yamamoto announced Emergency Management BC’s (EMBC) endorsement of a one-year pilot project for the use of unmanned aerial vehicles – “UAVs” or drones – by search and rescue crews in Coquitlam and Kamloops.

The Evergreen extension, which will bring efficient rapid transit service between Coquitlam, Port Moody, Burnaby and Vancouver, was officially opened by B.C. Premier Christy Clark, and Dan Ruimy, Member of Parliament for Pitt Meadows-Maple Ridge, on behalf of the Honourable Amarjeet Sohi, Federal Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, and representatives of the project’s partners.

Positive traffic changes will come into effect tomorrow at the Fawcett Road off-ramp from Highway 1 in Coquitlam, allowing general traffic to travel westbound onto United Boulevard during off-peak times of day, and all day on the weekends.

As part of the public safety funding announced in February 2016, the Province is committing $7.65-million in funding towards upgrading the Coquitlam dike and protecting homes and land at risk of flooding from high water levels in the Pitt River.

Progress on the Evergreen Project continues as construction of the station plaza areas begins this spring.
