The Province, with the support of the City of Cranbrook, the City of Kimberley and ʔaq’am, is taking action to curb the spread of chronic wasting disease (CWD) by targeted removal and testing of urban deer.

Collaborative teams from the Province, the Ktunaxa Nation Council, Kootenai Tribe of Idaho, and Idaho Department of Fish and Game are working on Moyie Lake to help recovery of the Lower Kootenay burbot population.

People in the East Kootenay region are one step closer to improved oncology and renal health services at East Kootenay Regional Hospital (EKRH) as the Province moves ahead with an approved business plan for a new two-floor building expansion in Cranbrook.

The Province’s fish biologists and international co-managers will be on Moyie Lake in February to catch, tag and release burbot as part of egg collection to support recovery in the Kootenay River and Kootenay Lake.

More people living in the East Kootenay region will have access to high-quality long-term care as Interior Health prepares to build a new care community with 148 beds.

People experiencing or at risk of homelessness will soon have a new permanent shelter to rely on as the Province, through BC Housing, has bought a property in Cranbrook.
