The Holt Creek Trestle which acts as a bridge for pedestrians, cyclists and horseback riders along the Trans Canada Trail between Shawnigan Lake and Lake Cowichan, will be closed to the public as of Oct. 10, 2017, for rehabilitation work.

The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure has awarded a $998,900 contract to Seismic 2000 Construction Ltd. of Aldergrove to carry out the Cowichan River bridges’ seismic safety retrofit project.

North Cowichan will receive $472,311 in BikeBC funding for the Trans-Canada Multi-Use Path, announced Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Todd Stone.

The final portion of diking designed to provide flood protection for Duncan and the Koksilah industrial and business complex area is now complete thanks to $4.133 million in funding from the federal and provincial governments and the Cowichan Valley Regional District (CVRD).

Improved infrastructure, modernized technology and newer and cleaner buses are topping the list of BC Transit projects for the Cowichan Valley soon to roll out under phase one of the new Public Transit Infrastructure Fund.

Work is scheduled to begin this summer to replace the Upper Harris Bridge between Lake Cowichan and Port Renfrew, improving the safety and reliability of this Harris River crossing. The bridge is located about 30 km southeast of Lake Cowichan along the Pacific Marine Circle Route. A new two-lane structure will replace the old single-lane bridge.
