People in northern B.C. will benefit from stronger community services as a result of approximately $4 million from the Northern Healthy Communities Fund (NHCF).

As part of wildfire recovery efforts following the 2018 Shovel Lake and Island Lake wildfires, the Province is working with local First Nations to protect and restore burnt areas and support the First Nations, as they monitor the season’s mushroom harvest.

Members of the Stellat’en First Nation now have an enhanced voice in local forest stewardship and greater opportunity for economic development through a forestry agreement signed with the Province, moving British Columbia and the Stellat’en further down the path of reconciliation.

WorkBC’s Find Your Fit Tour will be in Fraser Lake at Fraser Lake Elementary Secondary school, on Tuesday, Nov. 7 and open to the public from 3:15 p.m. – 7 p.m.

To help mature workers in Fraser Lake get the training and support they need for local jobs, the Government of Canada and the Province of British Columbia will provide nearly $160,000 to the College of New Caledonia (CNC) Vanderhoof campus to deliver the Targeted Initiative for Older Workers (TIOW) program.                                     

The College of New Caledonia (CNC) will receive $150,000 from the Ministry of Advanced Education to support training for workers affected by the Endako mine suspension in Fraser Lake.

In an effort to enhance economic opportunities and forest stewardship, the Village of Fraser Lake is being invited to apply for a community forest licence.

Endako Mine has been issued a Mines Act permit amendment which will increase production, create approximately 160 new jobs and sustain a total of 400 employees in the north, announced Minister of Energy and Mines Rich Coleman.
